Professional reviews:

Jancisrobinson.com: “I do keep mentioning the early herbaceous exuberance of spontaneous fermentation in Fröhlich’s Grosse Gewächse, as it would be unfair not give the whole picture, but with regard to the Felsenberg, minerality is the true essence of this wine. Even the simple translation of rock’s edge transmits an accurate reflection of its compact slatey-flinty expression, but far from just dust between the teeth, the taster is also treated to some concentrated lime and grapefruit flavours, pith, peel and all. Rugged contours, well-toned body, intellectual appeal.” 19/20 pts

John Gilman (View from the cellar): “Even though I placed my order for the 2013 Kupfergrube GG as I was walking out the door, there is no doubting that the very finest Grosses Gewächs in this stellar lineup this year is this magical Felseneck. The young, very complex and simply brilliant bouquet is a blend of tart orange, pink grapefruit, petrol, kaleidoscopic slate nuances, wild yeasts, lemongrass, smoke, citrus peel and dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and supremely elegant, with a rock solid core, ripe, perfectly integrated acids, laser-like focus and a very, very long, refined and perfectly balanced finish. A stunning wine in the making! 2022-2055+.” 95+/100 pts

Vinous: “Alluringly spiced pear, sweet herbs and nut oils dominate the nose. Dense, silky tropical fruit flavors are elegantly balanced by salty minerality on the palate. Crisp, pure, savory and sophisticated, this complex dry Riesling boasts imposing length and must surely be counted as one of the finest of the vintage.” 95/100 pts

Wine Advocate: “Pale lime green in color, the 2013 Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Grosses Gewachs is very reductive with brilliant and intense lime peel aromas, crushed rocks and smoky mineral notes that come together on an overall very spicy, elegant and promising nose. The palate is piquant and juicy, enormously mineral and long. This wine is a quite rich and full-bodied, focused and elegant with a great length and complexity. It also has huge aging potential.” 95/100 pts
