Professional reviews:

Vinous (David Schildknecht): “I had been under the impression – which may have been accurate until last year – that Haart intended to keep the terms trocken or halbtrocken off his labels, given that his wines without Prädikat would taste dry but might fall on either side of the legal dividing line. Still, given a mere five grams of residual sugar, he may have felt tasters should be warned about this cuvée from 30-year-old vines in the Goldtröpfchen. Strikingly citric, it displays pungent scents and a bright, juicy, zesty palate presence of lemon, grapefruit and kumquat. The expansive, subtly oily, rich midpalate reflects alcoholic body just shy of 13 percent. Smoky, stony and pungent marjoram-like notes add interest to a finish that’s decidedly piquant but not at the expense of refreshment or transparency.” 90/100 pts

Mosel Fine Wines (David Rayer & Jean Fisch): “The Piesporter Riesling this year carries the Trocken designation, as it was finished around five grams per liter of residual sugar. This is made from the youngest vines that Julian works with in his parcels in Goldtröpfchen, which were all planted in 1985 and are now thirty years of age. The wine offers up a complex and classy bouquet of tart pear, orange zest, petrol, a fien base of slate, wild yeasts, a bit of currant leaf and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and complex, with outstanding focus and grip and a long, racy finish. Another really lovely bottle that will drink well out of the blocks, but age very well.”

John Gilman (View From the Cellar): “This offers a ripe nose of yellow fruits including yellow peach, mirabelle and pineapple as well as apricot and smoke with some airing. The wine proves on the powerful side on the palate yet develops a nice spicy and zesty structure towards the very long and dynamic finish. This wine is still slightly tart and tannic and will need a few years to find its balance.”
