Moselfinewines.com (David Rayer & Jean Fisch): “The 2016er Wintricher Ohligsberg was made from almost 100 year-old un-grafted vines and fermented down to 3 g/l of residual sugar, i.e. within legally dry levels. This develops a reduced nose of quince, cinnamon, herbs and spices, with some fresher elements of cassis in the background. The wine is quite spicy and powerful on the palate and leaves an intense feel of spices in the still slightly tart finish (the wine saw some prefermentationcold soak). This needs quite some years to settle down and integrate, but should then prove a great expression of dry Riesling. 2026-2036” 93/100 pts

Vinous.com (David Schildknecht): “Haart’s ‘Grand Cru Ohligsberger,’ from 90-year-old vines, features a fascinating crushed stone and graphite suffusion to juicy apple and zesty grapefruit; an earthy turnip-like note adds interest. A waxy feel and palpable sense of high extract suit the forceful, gripping finishing impression, to which mineral salts lend saliva-inducement. Less refined than the corresponding Goldtröpfchen, this will probably benefit to a greater degree from short-term bottle age. Still, given just over 13 percent alcohol and a mere three grams of residual sugar, it’s a very different and, for me, less convincing proposition than the corresponding bottlings from the five vintages that preceded it, and I’ll be surprised if it holds up as well long-term as the 2010, 2012 or 2014.” 91/100 pts
